JOIN US AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Computer Academy program at Menlo-Atherton High School is looking for adults in our local community interested in acting as mentors for our juniors. Mentoring is very rewarding and holds great promise for helping young people in a meaningful way. Caring mentors offer support, consistency, and an opportunity for our students to develop an understanding of the skills needed to accomplish their future goals. As a mentor you have the opportunity to pass on values, lessons learned, including social skills, to ensure these students are ready for success. Besides wanting to provide each student in the Academy with the unique experience of having a mentor, our goal is to ensure students in the Academy reach their long term goals whether it be pursuing a career upon graduation or attending an impacted university.
Every part of this mentor program is clearly outlined. You will be able to guide your mentee through resume building, college preparation and career planning activities. The hour and a half you spend with your mentee four times a year will be spent working on specific tasks or discussing specific issues with room for you to improvise/focus on the specific needs of the student you are working with. There is always time provided for you and your mentee to get to know each other on a personal level before trying to tackle the numerous goals of the program. As a mentor in our Academy program we want to put you in the position to assist our students to reach their goals and achieve their dreams.
If you are interested in participating in our program please contact [email protected]. We are currently in need of 70 mentors for our 11th-12th grade students so please feel free to share with friends or co-workers that you think might be interested. Please see the "Mentor Guide" link on the Home Page for an outline of topics discussed during our meetings.
